The Return of Iljimae is a 2009 South Korean historical action television series, starring Jung Il-woo in the title role of Iljimae, Yoon Jin-seo, Kim Min-jong and Jung Hye-young. It aired on MBC from January 21 to April 9, 2009 on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 21:55 for 24 episodes. The series is based on comic strip Iljimae, published between 1975 and 1977, by Ko Woo-yung which was based on a Chinese folklore from the Ming dynasty about a masked Robin Hood-esque character during the Joseon era. MBC bought the rights to the comic strip for their adaptation, which was to star Lee Seung-gi in the title role of Iljimae. However he pulled out and was replaced by Jung, which makes him the third Korean actor to play the hero following Jang Dong-gun and Lee Joon-gi for Iljimae.

Despite being born with low status, Luo Shiyiniang is extremely assertive and believes that a woman's vision should not be limited to the household. She hopes to rely on her embroidery skills as a ticket to freedom. However, the once-esteemed Luo family is in a state of decline. Hoping to save the clan through a marriage alliance, Shiyiniang is selected to become the wife of Yongping Duke and great general Xu Lingyi. A series that follows different women and their stories during the Qing Dynasty

Zhang Xiao, a 21st-century woman, is transported back to the Qing Dynasty during Emperor Kangxi's reign after a bizarre accident. She awakens in the body of Maertai Rouxi, a teenage nobleman's daughter, and must navigate life in a past world shaped by her mysterious connection to this historical figure.

In the late Qing Dynasty of ancient China, the city of Tianjin was also influenced by the Restoration of 1898. The Great Qing Dynasty declined. Tang Qing Shan was also influenced by the new thoughts; however, he had been doing a booming business and engaged with Shi Pei Zhen, who was a gifted girl. She had dressed up as a boy and sworn to be brothers with Tang Qing Shan and his best friend, Fei Yong Jia. On the wedding day, armies abruptly flooded in to search houses and confiscate the property under the name of "collusion with parties and coveting the royalty". Tang Qing Shan and his father were arrested. The father died, and Tang Qing Shan was condemned to be in jail forever.
